Naren Chandra Das had a meeting with the Dalai Lama in Guwahati in 2018.

Assam Rifles veteran Naren Chandra Das, who received and escorted the 14th Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso on his arrival in India from Tibet in 1959, died on Tuesday.
He was 83 years old. At the age of 22, the Dalai Lama fled Tibet, crossing the border on 30 March 1959, reaching Assam on 18 April.
He was escorted to Indian territory by a seven-member team of soldiers from the Assam Rifles, one of whom was Naren Chandra Das, then 23. Das had met the Dalai Lama in Guwahati in 2018.
