The Pentagon says no flights are taking off or landing at Kabul’s airport. – World Latest News Headlines

The Pentagon said Monday that no aircraft, military or civilian, are arriving or departing Hamid Karzai International Airport at this time.

Pentagon chief spokesman John F. Kirby said US Marines — 2,500 flights — were suspended until Monday morning because of a security breach on the civilian side of the airport until troops had secured the airport.

He said by Tuesday morning the military expects about 3,000 Marines to be at the airport to assist with the evacuation effort. Defense Secretary Lloyd J. Austin III is sending an additional 1,000 troops from the 82nd Airborne to Kabul instead of Kuwait to help secure the area.

A total of 6,000 US troops are conducting security at the airport and assisting with the evacuation as of the end of this week.
