Film ‘Kya Meri Sonam Gupta Bewafa Hai’ to release on Zee5 on 10th September

A controversy has erupted in Bihar’s Kaimur district ahead of the release of the film ‘Kya Meri Sonam Gupta Bewafa Hai’. The film, directed by Saurabh Tyagi, is scheduled to release on the OTT platform on September 10. Representatives of an organization of the Vaish community in Kaimur district have written to the Prime Minister. Narendra ModiUnion Home Minister Amit Shah and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar demanded a ban on the film. The organization has threatened to go to court if the government does not ban the film.

Siva, the state organization secretary of Vaish Samaj, has accused director Saurabh Tyagai of trying to humiliate the community through this film. Siva, who is also the president of Kaimur’s Mohaniya Nagar Panchayat, said he would talk to the opposition leaders in Bihar and go to court to get the film banned.

People opposing the film alleged that the film is based only on prejudice against a particular caste and community. Instead of breaking prejudices and stereotypes, the film is showing a community in a bad light, he added.

The romantic-comedy film ‘Kya Meri Sonam Gupta Bewafa Hai’ marks the Bollywood debut of TV actress Surbhi Jyoti. She will be seen opposite Punjabi actor Jassi Gill in the lead role. This is the last film of actress Surekha Sikri, who passed away in July. The film, which is slated to release on September 10 on Zee5, also stars Vijay Raaz, Atul Srivastava, Brijendra Kala in pivotal roles.
