The Kerala Story and Guardians of the Galaxy 3 clashed at the box office.

Box Office Collection: The Kerala Story has surpassed Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 in India as per the preliminary box office reports.

According to reports, The Kerala Story has done better than Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 in India. The Kerala Story, directed by Sudipto Sen and starring Adah Sharma, was released alongside James Gunn’s final ride in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and reportedly did better than the Marvel Studios film. The initial box office collection estimates suggest that Kerala Story has collected Rs 7.5 crore while Gotji Vol 3 has collected Rs 7 crore.

According to Sacnilk.com, The Kerala Story had an overall Hindi occupancy of 28.48%. While the morning show recorded an occupancy of 17.47 per cent on Friday, the night show had a higher occupancy rate. Taking into account the reported collection of Rs 7.5 crore, The Kerala Story has done twice as well as last year’s The Kashmir Files on its opening day.

Speaking exclusively with News18.com, trade experts said that Kerala Story may register an impressive start but may not maintain the momentum of The Kashmir Files. “If you look at The Kashmir Files, the film got good reviews, especially from the audience who saw the film. The Kerala Story has received a mixed response so far. Trade expert Atul Mohan said, ‘Kerala Story’ The Kashmir Files can grow at the box office only if the audience gives it the same kind of support.

For the unversed, The Kerala Story revolves around the stories of Hindu women from Kerala who were converted to Islam and trafficked to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). The film opened amid controversies and mixed reviews. The film has the support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Now it remains to be seen whether The Kerala Story can repeat the magic of The Kashmir Files at the box office.

Meanwhile, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 is expected to bring in Rs 7 crore in India. The last film in the three-part franchise has done decent business internationally. As per a report in Deadline, the film is expected to earn $110 million in its opening weekend in the US.
