The move comes after the director had claimed threat to his life on the release of his film. The director, who is in news for his latest film ‘The Kashmir Files’, tells the story of his escape Kashmiri Pandit from the valley.

Ahead of the release of his film, Agnihotri deactivated his Twitter account and claimed that he was receiving death threats and obscene calls to stop the release of his film.

In a post he wrote, “… my DMs were full of obscene and threatening messages (you know who). Not that I can’t handle such elements, but it seemed that many Pakistanis and Chinese Were bots. However it is mentally tempting to be surrounded by such intense hatred and threats to your family. For what? To make an honest film on the pain and suffering of our Kashmiri brothers and sisters? Are they so amazed that there might be truth? Come out? The ugly world of social media has given power to a lot of evil elements. And our silence gives them hope to succeed. Kashmir Files breaks that silence. Loud and clear.”

The film, which released last Friday, has received tremendous response at the box office. The film earned an estimated total of Rs 95.50 crore at the domestic box office. With the collections pouring in from the international markets, the film has reportedly crossed the Rs 100 crore mark.

Taking to his handle, the director wished the fans and fellow Indians “happy holi“As he shared the film earned a total of Rs 106.80 crores worldwide in 7 days.
