Rajkot: As a result of the aggressive vaccination campaign launched by the administration, 80% of the adult population of Gir Somnath district is getting the first dose. covid vaccine. Whereas 343 villages of the district have secured 100% first dose marks.
Chief District Health Officer Arun Roy said, “A total of 7.95 lakh people have been given the first dose, while 3.24 lakh people have been fully vaccinated in the district.”
Many parts of Gir Somnath district, where Asiatic lions live, are remote areas surrounded by forests. Apart from access to remote areas, vaccine hesitation among locals also proved to be a hindrance in the vaccine campaign.
The district administration organized various programs to overcome the hesitation of vaccination so as to ensure maximum participation in the campaign. Senior officials including Collector and District Development Officer organized ‘Ratri Sabhas’ in various villages to make people aware.
The district administration used the public address system of religious places like mosques to spread awareness about the vaccination campaign and bust rumors about the jabs.
The health teams visited the cattle breeders in the villages of the Gir sanctuary area using mobile vans and also administered vaccines at their homes. The health team also visited boats at Veraval port to feed the fishermen.
