The first purpose-built cremation ground for the Hindus of Britain. Ahmedabad News – Times of India

A proposal has been approved to build the first purpose-built crematorium for Hindus in the UK, fulfilling the community’s long-standing desire to be able to pay a respectful farewell to the departed with traditional rites.
On December 16, the Planning Inspectorate gave unique mission UK permission to plan cremation at its 15-acre site near Denham in the south-east of England. The council of Buckinghamshire, under which Denham falls, refused planning permission on 4 September 2020. The council considered the plan “an unfair development in the Green Belt”.

But now Anupama The Mission may set up structures on the premises of the Shri Swaminarayan Spiritual Cultural and Community Centre.
“We welcome this important decision and the opportunity of Anupam Mission to serve Britain’s Hindu population,” said Param Pujya Sahebji, spiritual leader of Anupam Mission, in a statement. “Performing ‘Anti Sanskar’ or funeral rites as per our Hindu customs and rituals liberates peace of mind for the departed soul and families during a sensitive time.” The cremation ground will have a large function hall, two private ritual rooms, shower facilities, a cremation hall and a separate canteen building. The facility will accommodate 500 attendees and will have a dedicated parking space.
planning inspector Katie McDonald noted that the Hindu community in the region was “deprived of the opportunity to fully observe cultural and religious beliefs and traditions”. The Inspector said that the Hindu community, especially in North and West London and surrounding countries, has limitations in the observance of cultural and religious beliefs.
“Our large and quiet grounds in Denham, along with our newly constructed temple facilities, provide an ideal venue for this ‘manav seva’ or service to humanity,” Sahebji continued in the statement. “We look forward to working with all Hindu organizations to deliver this vision to the entire community.” With Lorde received over 2,000 signatures of support for the proposals. Jitesh Gadhia And Bob Blackman is speaking in favor of the application during the MP appeals process.
The existing cremation grounds in the area are not sufficient for all Hindu rites. The wait to avail the facilities can be long and deepen the grief of the bereaved.
According to a media statement released by Anupam Mission, “The cremation ground and associated facilities have been specifically designed and architecturally designed to meet the needs of the Hindu community.”
