The family with 2 children on board the Nepal plane that crashed was on an annual visit

A couple aboard the de Havilland Canada DHC-6-300 Twin Otter plane that crashed on Sunday were on an annual family visit, directed by a family court after their divorce.

Vaibhavi Tripathi and her ex-husband Ashok Tripathi and their children were on board the plane and were on their court journey when it crashed at Sanosware in Thasang Gaupalika of Mustang. There was no announcement by Nepalese authorities about the death toll, but people at the crash site said some of the bodies found were unrecognizable.

Another team of Nepal Army and Armed Police Force said they were in the process of collecting the bodies. A hotelier told news outlets that upon arriving at the crash site, he could not see anyone alive.

Nepal Army spokesman Narayan Silwal said earlier on Monday that officials and rescue teams saw the wreckage of the plane.

According to Hindustan Times, the police contacted the family and found that Vaibhavi was working in a company in Bandra and taking care of her mother.

Her sister urged the police officials not to inform her mother of the development as she was in a critical condition.

Senior police officer Uttam Sonawane of Thane’s Kapurbawdi police station confirmed the arrangement to Hindustan Times. Hindustan Times quoted Sonawane as saying, “Vaibhavi and her ex-husband Ashok were ordered by a family court to go on leave of 10 days along with their children every year after the divorce.”

De Havilland Canada DHC-6-300 Twin Otter crashed in a mountainous area near Jomsom, a popular tourist town in central Nepal. The hunt was called off on Sunday citing snowfall and unfavorable weather conditions.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) said the flight took off at 9:55 am on Sunday with 22 people on board.

Officials said search and rescue teams were moving to the crash site. Mayagadi Chief District Officer Chiranjibi Rana said on Sunday that locals have confirmed that the plane made two rounds in Khaibang and headed towards Kitti Danda near Lete Pass, which is 2,500 meters above sea level.
