The Election Commission of India (ECI) has practically dismissed speculations that assembly elections in five states may be postponed due to rising COVID-19 cases in the country. After the visit to Uttar Pradesh, the Election Commission said that all political parties in the state “want the elections to be on time”.

Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra said at a press conference in New Delhi on Thursday on the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, “Representatives of all political parties met us and told us that the elections should be conducted on time following all COVID-19 protocols. Must go.”
