The director of The Great Indian Kitchen remake refuses to accept Angad Bedi as a part of Sanya Malhotra’s film. Unique

A few days ago news came that Malayalam film The Great Indian Kitchen is being remade in Hindi. With Cargo director Arti Kadav at the helm of the remake, the film will feature Sanya Malhotra in the lead role and Harman Baweja will support the project as a producer. The original film starred Nimisha Sajayan and Sooraj Venjaramudu in the lead roles. While Sanya will replace Nimisha, rumors suggested that Angad Bedi will be seen playing Sooraj in the Hindi remake.

However, Aarti Kadav has denied such claims. The filmmaker while talking to News18 said, “No, no, it is not confirmed. We are in talks with a few male leads and Angad is someone I personally love a lot. But we don’t know about the script. We are also trying to meet the requirements because in this script, the dynamics are a little different from the original. We just have to make sure that everything works in favor of the script. So we are letting the script decide the choice.”

Aarti also revealed her first reaction to the offer of a remake of the popular Malayalam film. The director said that she had already seen the original film and was wondering how to improve an already perfect film. “I had seen the original Malayalam film and I was a huge fan of the film. When the film came to me, my first reaction was why do you want to adopt a perfect film. How do you take a perfect film and make it better? I met the producers, Harman Baweja, I met Sanya Malhotra who was very keen to translate this story and make it across India and I started thinking about the film. There were so many things that the film talks about, the reality of a lot of women in India,” she said.

She pointed out that the circumstances are the same regardless of background. “It’s not like you have to be from any village in India. Even independent working women from educated families suffer a lot. It is a long journey for women in India. I thought why not tell the story with the same sensitivity but make it across India. If the film makes a difference in the lives of like 100 families, I would be really (happy). I want people to watch the film and come back and realize how we have been so cruel to our mothers all our lives. We are so entitled to what our mothers make us do. Like many men do to their wives. Even if some people change after watching the film, it is a big achievement. It’s kind of a revolution that I’m excited about.”

Aarti Kadav is among 10 artists who have been named as emerging talent from the Indian film, gaming and television industries by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA). She will be participating in the BAFTA Breakthrough India initiative supported by Netflix this year.
