Patna: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday said that his government has not yet given up on the demand for special status to Bihar. He rejected the claim of the Minister of Planning and Development Bijendra Prasad Yadav said that his government is tired of fulfilling this demand and will now demand a special package from the Center for the development of the state.
“The minister concerned has said in his own way,” Nitish told the media while reviewing the preparations in the assembly premises for the centenary celebrations of the state assembly building on October 21. President Ram Nath Kovind will participate in the event.
“All that (the minister said) is a separate matter, but we have not yet given up on the demand for special status to Bihar,” Nitish insisted. He said, ‘The decision on this has to be taken by the Center alone. We have been following it since 2007,” he said.
Referring to a committee constituted under the then RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan Under the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre, Nitish said, “The report of that committee came, but the Center did not take any decision on it. After this, the 14th Finance Commission also submitted its report and the Center said that it had done it.” not mentioned.
Regarding the demand for caste census, the CM said, “When in Delhi, I had said that an all-party meeting would be held again (in Patna). We will sit together and discuss what needs to be done in the new situation regarding caste census. We will also discuss what kind of development activities the state needs and, in fact, needs to be done,” Nitish said.
When reminded of another letter sent by Leader of Opposition in the state assembly Tejashwi Prasad Yadav on the flood issue, Nitish said in a lighter vein: “Do the letters reach me? Before they come to me, letters are delivered to the media. I should make it clear that I read letters when they are addressed and sent to me.”
He said that apart from personally visiting the flood affected areas, the ministers in-charge of the districts also visited the areas to get feedback on the problems of the people. “All the reports have come in regarding the damage. Necessary follow-up action will be taken,” the CM said, adding that not a single Covid-19 case was registered in the tests conducted on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the Speaker of the Assembly with Nitish Vijay Kumar Sinha And some ministers went to the lawns of the state legislature building to get firsthand information about the preparations being made for the centenary celebrations of the state legislature building. The CM also inspected the legislature building complex including the entry point. He issued necessary instructions to the concerned officials to remove the moisture marks and give quality finishing touches. The ministers accompanying him were Deputy CM Tarkishore Prasad, Vijay Kumar Choudhary and Ashok Choudhary.
