There is good news for the pilgrims going on Amarnath Yatra starting after two years. Now they will get helicopter service till Amarnath. The Ministry of Home Affairs has taken this big decision to reduce the travel pressure on the roads leading to the cave. Ministry has asked Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) to start direct helicopter service from Srinagar to Panchtarni.

This will bring great relief to the passengers. At present, helicopter service is available for passengers from Baltal and Pahalgam to Panchtarni. Both the places are more than 90 km away from Srinagar.

decision taken in the meeting
A new route is being added for this, which will be from Budgam to Panchtarni near Srinagar airport. Every year a large number of devotees reach the Amarnath Yatra for darshan. This time too the government is expecting a huge crowd in the yatra. For this, a meeting was held last week, in which it has been decided that helicopter services can be provided to passengers from Srinagar as well.

SASB has been ordered to investigate whether it will be possible to land a helicopter in the foothills of the Amarnath cave. At present, only helicopters carrying VVIPs land near the Amarnath cave. At the same time, with the start of helicopter service for common passengers, devotees will be able to visit Amarnath in a single day.

As per the direction of Supreme Court only 15000 registered pilgrims are allowed to go beyond Pahalgam and Baltal for Shri Amarnath Yatra in a day. Amarnath Yatra will start from June 30 this year, which will last for 43 days. At the same time, according to intelligence agencies, threats have been received to target terrorists in the yatra. In such a situation, the security forces are on alert.
