Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday virtually opening a tea packaging unit Of Tata Consumer Products Limited Feather Gopalpur Industrial Park in Ganjam.
The plant has been commissioned over a period of 18 months with an investment of Rs 100 crore and generates employment opportunities for over 900 people.
The plant, with a current production capacity of 15 million kg, will be developed into the largest tea packaging plant in the country as the company plans to increase its capacity to 50 million kg in future. It is one of the most modern unit with all state-of-the-art technologies, an official statement said.
The unit will cater to the needs of Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Central India. It is operated by Amalgamated Plantation Pvt Ltd, a Tata consumer associate and the second largest tea producer in India.
Chief Minister appreciated the role Tata Group in Odisha and said that it is playing an important role in the industrial development of the state. He also appreciated the Tata group’s support to the state government in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.
“They (Tata) have also come forward in accelerating social development by partnering with the state government in education, health and skill development initiatives,” Naveen said.
Naveen said that Odisha remains at the forefront of industrial development in India. “Odisha’s policy framework and facilitation mechanism has been successful in mobilizing investments in diverse sectors such as petrochemicals, food processing, apparel and apparel. Ongoing diversification of industrial base will further improve employment opportunities in Odisha,” he said.
State Industries Minister Divya Shankar Mishra underlined the progress of the state in industrial development in the last two decades. He said that the state has provided a stable platform to the industries for healthy development in Odisha.
Tata Steel Managing Director TV Narendran said Tata Steel has invested over Rs 60,000 crore in Odisha in the last five years, while Tata Steel has also invested Rs 500 crore for infrastructure development in the Gopalpur Special Economic Zone spread over 2970 acres on the east coast.
