Karnataka CM hands over Rs 25 lakh check to Naveen Shekharappa’s family

The body of Indian student Naveen Shekharappa Gyangoudar, who was killed in a gunfight in Ukraine’s Kharkiv on March 1 amid the Russo-Ukraine war, arrived at the Bengaluru airport here on Monday.

Family members of the medical student and Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai were present at the airport along with state government officials.

The family members gave their last farewell to Naveen and after that the Chief Minister laid a wreath on his body.

The flight carrying Naveen’s body landed at the Bengaluru airport at around 3:00 pm and was sent to his native village in Haveri district of Karnataka.

Addressing the press outside the airport, Bommai said, “I thank the central government for its efforts to bring back the body of Naveen Shekharappa Gyangoudar, who was killed in the shelling in Ukraine. It is unfortunate that we lost him in the shelling.” ” ,

MBBS student Naveen Shekharappa Gyangoudar hailed from Haveri district of Karnataka. A 21-year-old student of Kharkiv National Medical University, allegedly standing in a queue to buy food, was killed in Russian shelling.

The Chief Minister of Karnataka handed over a check of Rs 25 lakh to Naveen Shekharappa’s family and promised a job to one of the family members.

Earlier on Saturday, Naveen’s father Shankarappa said that the family members have decided to donate their son’s body for medical research.

“My son wanted to achieve something in the field of medicine, but it did not happen. At least his body can be used by other medical students for studies. So, we decided to donate his body for medical research, at home. It has been decided,” Naveen’s father said.
