Addressing party workers during a sit-in to press for a caste-based census on Saturday, Singh had advised them not to wear jeans as it would send a wrong message. Singh, who took credit for maintaining discipline in the party, also asked the workers to sit at the protest site.
“Our party is a party of the poor, downtrodden and downtrodden. We have to fight a long battle as our rights are being compromised. Those wearing jeans may not be our party workers, but RSS or BJP. They have joined our movement with the wrong intention.
The RJD’s state chief got agitated after some activists wearing jeans walked around and paid little heed to their repeated requests to sit at the dharna site. Apparently annoyed at his behaviour, Singh said, “Jeans wear neeti nahi ho hai (Jeans wearers can’t be leaders).”
Within hours of Jagdanand’s statement, many Chhatra RJD The workers were seen wearing jeans in the meeting held at the state office on Sunday. Chhatra RJD state president Akash Kumar said, ‘I don’t think it is fair and just. Today’s politics has nothing to do with dress or uniform.”
Neeraj Kumar, an office-bearer of Chhatra RJD, said, “We respect Jagda Babu for his seniority and contribution since the inception of the party, but he should refrain from making controversial remarks.”
Reacting to Singh’s remarks, HAM(S) spokesperson Danish Rizwan said, “This is ridiculous. He should first try to organize his house. Liked by RJD leaders Tejashwi Prasad Yadav And Manoj Jha can be seen wearing a T-shirt and jeans. They should first initiate action against them.”
VIP National Spokesperson Dev Jyoti He said, “With all due respect and respect to the RJD veteran, I would like to say that times have changed and so is the case with politics. Wearing jeans is no longer a taboo.
JDU spokesperson Abhishek Jha termed Singh’s statement as an insult to the youth. “It shows the mindset of the party that they are moving ahead,” he said.
