Gorakhpur: ADG Gorakhpur Akhil Kumar on Thursday inspected the hotel where the deceased businessman Manish Gupta was staying. Gupta died after being injured during a police raid at the hotel late on Monday night.
After the inspection, Kumar told reporters that the site of the incident has been inspected. The investigation into the death of Manish Gupta has been handed over to the Crime Branch, Gorakhpur and instructions have been issued for a speedy investigation. The investigation team will be strengthened and more investigators will be involved. Every point will be probed, including how and why the raids were conducted and how many policemen were involved,” he said.
Kumar said, “Medical reports and CCTV footage will be included and statements of witnesses will be taken and those who have left here will also be taken. Since the allegation is against the police, care will be taken to conduct the investigation in a fair manner.”
When asked about the pictures and videos of the incident going viral, he said, “Obviously you must have had pictures and video clips. I assure you that every single point will be covered in the investigation and the culprits will be booked.” Strict action will be taken.
Regarding the postmortem report, he said: “The statement of the doctors who conducted the postmortem will be taken to know the details of the injuries and what could have caused the injuries.”
According to Manish Gupta’s postmortem report, he had injury marks on his face and body, including eyes, limbs and back, besides severe injuries on the skull.
Six policemen were suspended late on Monday night. Later, a case under section 302 (murder) of the IPC was registered against six policemen, including three named. SHO Ramgarhtal Inspector Jagat Narayan Singh, Sub-Inspector Akshay Mishra and Sub-Inspector Vijay Yadav have been made accused.
SSP Vipin Tada said that Inspector KK Rana, who was recently transferred from Gonda district, has taken charge of Ramgarhtal police station in place of suspended Inspector Jagat Narayan Singh.
