Thane: Thane police arrested the wife of one flag The actor allegedly posed as a support employee of a nationalized bank and duped a 72-year-old senior citizen to the tune of Rs 3.75 lakh.
According to the police, the victim, resident Anand Nagar, is a retired Professor and maintains a bank account in a branch located in Kasarvadavali Area.
The pension of the victim is deposited in two accounts.
On November 12, the victim had gone to the bank to transfer the amount. The accused came to the victim and introduced himself as a support staff for senior citizens.
She asked for his check book and passbook and told him that she would fill it for him.
At that time the victim gave him two checks of Rs 5 lakh and two checks of Rs 2 lakh.
On 15 November, the accused again met the senior citizen for making a fixed deposit in the bank, once again pretended to help him and took documents from him on the pretext of making FD and told him that his work was done.
Later on November 24, she came to the complainant’s wife’s house on the pretext of getting an FD. The accused asked him to sign the check and took it on the pretext of overwriting and left.
The manager called him to the bank and said that they had received two checks – one in his name and the other in the name of the accused – and if they wanted to transfer the amount to his account. The victim denied.
The victim questioned the accused as to why he tried to transfer the amount in his name, to which she said that there was some misunderstanding.
But the victim felt that something was wrong so she contacted the bank and found that around Rs 3.75 lakh had been transferred to her account while the bank had withdrawn other checks.
“She was present at that time and the police was informed after which a case was registered and she was arrested,” said Rajesh BabshettySenior Inspector of Kasarvadavali police station.
Another cheating case is registered against the accused and her husband in Pune, the official said.
