Thane: Drunk couple assaults four cops in Bhiwandi, held | Thane News – Times of India

KALYAN: The Narpoli police in Bhiwandi town of Maharashtra’s Thane district arrested a drunk couple for allegedly misbehaving and assaulting four cops.
The couple at a dhaba was having an argument with hotel staffs and customers over some issue and learning the same, a police team reached the spot to help the couple but the drunk duo assaulted the police team. The couple did not stop at this and when they were taken to the police station, they misbehaved with two other policemen there too and manhandled them by pushing them.
The arrested couple is identified as Bhanupratap Singh, 28, and Nayna Kartik, 25. Police said that Singh runs a garment shop in the Santacruz area of ​​Mumbai while Kartik, who stays in Neral in Thane rural, works in an event management company.
On Monday, they were produced before the Bhiwandi court which remanded them to one-day police custody.
The police said that on late Sunday night, they got a call on police helpline number 112 claiming that some dispute happened at Rukmini dhaba situated on Mumbai-Nashik highway. Acting on the information, two constables Mahesh Mahale and Shinde hastened to the spot where they found the couple was having a dispute with the dhaba staff and some customers. The policemen tried to stop them but since the couple was heavily drunk, they started misbehaving with both the constables and even manhandled them.
KR Patil, assistant police inspector of Nizampura The police station said, “When both of them assaulted our constables, they were brought to the police station where to they started misbehaving with other police staffs and manhandled two other constables Pooja Patil and Songire”.
The police later booked the couple under charges of assault on a public servant and arrested them.
