KALYAN: Thane police on Wednesday morning took action against a Ganesh mandal in Kalyan for using objectionable decoration and confiscated the contents of the decoration.
The police have also registered an FIR against mandal’s representative under section 153 (Wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot) and 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) of Indian Penal Code.
Vijay Tarun Mandal is 59-year-old. This year, mandal had prepared a decoration on Shiv Sena’s organizational disintegration.
The mandal is run by Uddhav supported Shiv Sena leader Vijay Salvi.
Every year, mandal creates a decoration based on the latest events. Since the split in Shiv Sena was a fresh topic this year, a decoration was created on the issue.
This year through decoration, Mandal without naming any leader had targeted the leaders who had separated from Shiv Sena saying how they took advantage of the Shiv Sena which is like a fruit-bearing tree.
Reacting over police action, Vijay Salvi, trustee of mandal and Shiv Sena leader said, “Every year, our mandal prepares decoration on the important events of the year. Since this year Shiv Sena party faced big split, decoration was made on the same subject decoration and there was nothing offensive but we are surprise with police action like Hitler.”
Salvi further said, “Looking at police action we have decided not to celebrate Ganesh festival this year and we will move into high court against police action”.
The police however said that mandal in past too has has created objectionable decoration many times and because of which in past too action was taken.
When asked over issue, Sachin Gunjal, deputy commissioner of police, zone 3 of Thane police, said, “The mandal earlier was issued served notice asking to do not use any objectionable content in decoration but despite notice they used objectionable content due to which action has been taken and also an FIR has been registered.”
The police action meanwhile have created anger amongst Shiv Sainiks in the city.
