Thane: Congress announces to fight the upcoming civic elections alone. Thane News – Times of India

Thane: Signs of tension among MVA allies at the local level were reflected again on Friday, Friday Congress Announced to contest the upcoming civic elections alone.
This announcement was made by Congress Thane President, Corporator Vikrant ChavanAddressing a workers’ meeting in the city, he said there is a need to strengthen the party’s base in urban areas.
“There is a huge number of traditional Congress voters in the city and we need to reach out to them soon. There is a need to enter at the micro level and only those popular among voters in the ward will be considered to contest the upcoming elections,” Chavan said.
It may be noted that Thane has seen tensions between MVA allies with Shiv Sena and NCP leaders already crossing swords and recently engaging in a verbal duel over civic issues.
The latest incident of a fresh tussle between state allies at the local level came when Mayor Naresh Mhaske on Tuesday announced that the Shiv Sena does not require the support of the NCP in the functioning of the general body or the corporation. Mhaske was speaking after a sudden protest by NCP councilors during the general assembly proceedings against the administration and the ruling party.
The NCP retaliated on Wednesday, reminding Mhaske of Shiv Sena leader and Guardian Minister Eknath Shinde’s request for support for the top post ahead of the 2019 mayoral elections. Former MP and NCP city president Anand Paranjpe said, “Shinde personally accompanied Mhaske to the opposition leader’s office and sought NCP’s support to elect him unopposed as the mayor, which was immediately accepted.”
The Thane corporations may probably be organized in next February.
