Thane: Two laborers have been allegedly arrested murder of a contractor, who had hired him for a house painting job, robbed him and buried his body near his house in Kolshet. Police are looking for his three accomplices.
Thane zonal DCP Vinay Rathod said the body of the victim Hanumant Shelke (47) was exhumed on Thursday and handed over to his family for last rites.
Shelke’s family said he had left home on September 1 to pay for the treatment of an employee and never returned home. Initially, a missing case was registered by the Kapurbawdi police. But on September 6, when Shelke’s accomplice received a ransom call of Rs 15 lakh to release him, the police registered a case against him under IPC sections. Kidnapping, Forced ransom and criminal conspiracy.
The Kapurbawdi police along with Crime Branch Units 1 and 5 conducted a parallel investigation and caught two laborers on Wednesday. They reportedly told the police that the five stopped Shelke near his house, strangled him to death, stole Rs 10,000 and his 5 tola gold chain and buried the body. The arrested accused also told the interrogators that they then called Shelke’s accomplice for ransom to extort more money.
