T’gana: Constable accused of rape, attempted murder arrested; SI suspended for sexual abuse, cheating

In a series of dramatic events, Maredpally Circle Inspector (CI) K Nageswara Rao was arrested by the Rachakonda Police Commissionerate and Special Operations Team of Vanasthalipuram Police after registering a case of rape against him. He was arrested after Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand suspended him.

Rao allegedly raped a married woman at his house in Sri Venkateswara Colony in Telangana’s Hastinapuram on July 7, when her husband was away. When the husband returned home, the CI threatened to kill both the wife and the husband with a revolver. He blackmailed them by saying that he would file a brothel case against the married woman and a case of ganja smuggling against the husband. Later the CI forcibly took them to the police vehicle where the vehicle crashed on Ibrahimpatnam Cheruvu road. The couple fled the accident spot, reached Vanasthalipuram police station and lodged a complaint against the CI. Based on the details given by the victims, the Rachakonda police registered a case against Nageswara Rao and the Hyderabad Police Commissioner issued orders to suspend Rao.

According to the victims, the CI registered a case against the husband in 2018 and got his family to work in the field. The victim alleged that the CI made the couple work day and night by paying Rs 10,000 as salary. He said that the CI called up his wife and asked her to fulfill his sexual desires and threatened to register a brothel case against her if she refused to do so. Hyderabad Police Commissioner suspended the CI and posted factory CI Netaji as in-charge of CI of Maredpally.

Police said they nabbed Nageswara Rao after he was absconding for three days. According to him, the suspended CI, who had voluntarily surrendered himself to the Peddamberpet police, was later handed over to the Rachakonda Police Commissionerate. He is likely to be sent on remand on Monday. It is learned that he has assured the police that he will fully cooperate in the investigation of the case registered against him.

According to reliable sources, Nageswara Rao worked in the task force department for eight years and had amassed assets worth Rs 200 crore. He is said to have been involved in cases related to land settlement, extortion of money, cricket betting and drugs with the help of Additional DCP, where he received huge sums of money. Rao is trying his best to compromise with the aggrieved couple by giving compensation. Sources said the couple is under pressure to withdraw the case against Rao.

Within 24 hours of Rao’s arrest in the rape and attempt to murder case, Malkajgiri CCS sub-inspector Vijay Kumar Dharawat was suspended by Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat after a woman lodged a complaint at Miryalaguda police station. After establishing that Kumar had betrayed him. He was in a live-in relationship with her on the pretext of marriage, while he married another woman. After preliminary investigation, the police registered a case against him under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
