Terrorists responsible for Srinagar grenade attack have been identified: J&K DGP – Kashmir Reader

Kathua/Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh on Tuesday said the terrorists responsible for the recent grenade attack in Srinagar have been identified and the matter will be resolved soon.

On Sunday, two people, including a 19-year-old woman, were killed and 32 others were injured when a grenade detonated by militants at the crowded Hari Singh High Street near Amirakadal in the heart of Srinagar.

“Enemies of peace are committing such cowardly acts. We have achieved success against them in the past by busting all modules made by enemy forces to kill civilians and throw grenades to cause harm to the public,” Singh told reporters on the sidelines of a function in Kathua district.

He said that any new extremist module that comes to the fore is being dealt with and neutralised.

“Three to four such modules were busted in the last few days. Those involved in the grenade attack (in Srinagar) have been identified and the matter will be resolved soon.

He said that the security grid along the border with Pakistan has been strengthened to completely prevent smuggling of narcotics and arms into the Indian border.

“We have strengthened security to completely stop smuggling of drugs and weapons being dropped by drones,” Singh said.

Seeking public support from the Union Territory to end the menace of drug abuse, he said it was a bigger challenge than militancy and police alone could not fight it.

“It is a big challenge and every section of the society including the youth should come forward to help the police in fighting this plague. We have seized a large consignment and will continue our work, but we need support to deal with this menace.

He said that the police has launched a special drive against narcotics in every district, while the zonal chiefs are monitoring at the zonal level and this will also be dealt with with the cooperation of the people.-(PTI)
