In a veiled attack on Pakistan over cross-border terrorism, India said activities of groups like Lashkar and Jaish are a threat to peace.

“India raised the issue of cross-border terrorism and activities of groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, which have state support and threaten peace and security,” the statement said.

It said the meeting reviewed the regional and global political and security scenario in the context of the current developments in Afghanistan, Iran, the Middle East and the Gulf and emerging threats to national security such as cyber security.

Other items on the agenda were cooperation between law enforcement agencies, health security and health care, and terrorism.

India is chairing the BRICS this year which coincides with the 15th anniversary of the BRICS grouping. The meeting of the High Representatives took place ahead of the summit meeting of the leaders of the BRICS countries, which will be hosted by India this year.
