Mittal said Bharti Airtel had raised funds timely and adequately through equities and bonds, and added that the company is firmly positioned to serve the market in the years to come.
Mittal said, “We have never gone to the jungle. We are a strong company, at times we are underestimated in our resolve.”
He admitted that the last 5-6 years were brutal and pointed out that the results are for all to see.
“Ten operators went out of work, two merged together … are gasping for breath,” he said.
He said the industry needs to stay healthy to roll out 5G services and fulfill India’s digital dream.
Asked whether the company would consider raising tariffs, Mittal said, “We will not hesitate to do it, but it cannot be done unilaterally.”
“How long can you keep beating each other, the thing is when you have returns on capital, even by the best operators, on the low single digits and most of them are struggling. are … the tariff always seems bad … just bring it back to where it was … enjoy 15 times the consumption, but at least come back to the old tariff.”
