Hyderabad: Two Maoists surrendered before the police in Bhadradri Kothagudem district of Telangana on Thursday.
The former militants have been identified as Hemula Rama alias Laxman (27) and Madakam Paiki alias Lakshmi (26).
According to Bhadradri Kothagudem Superintendent of Police Sunil Dutt, Hemula Rama attended Maoist Party in 2016. he was the one Jegurugonda Area Committee Member of Maoist Party (ACM) in Chhattisgarh.
“At present, Hemula Rama was working as a guard Jegurogonda Mandal Committee Member (DVCM), Jagdish,” the SP said.
Madkam Paiki is a member of the 10th Platoon of People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) in Jegurugonda and joined the Maoist party in 2015.
Police said Hemula Rama and Madkam Paiki surrendered due to harassment and threats from senior party members.
“When Hemula Rama and Madkam Paiki expressed their desire to leave the Maoist party, the seniors did not allow them. They were harassed as the leadership was against the members leaving the party. Fearing for their lives, both the youths confronted the police. Decided to surrender and start a new life,” the SP said.
During a press conference, the police appealed to the Maoists to surrender and join the mainstream.
