The Telangana government has declared a holiday in Greater Hyderabad on Wednesday and Thursday in view of incessant rains. Municipal Administration Secretary Arvind Kumar declared a holiday with home advisory for all private institutions, offices and non-essential services within the Outer Ring Road (ORR).
With many parts of the city and suburbs still waterlogged and without electricity, the authorities have also declared a holiday for online classes for schools and colleges.
Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao and Animal Husbandry Minister T.Srinivas Yadav held an emergency meeting with city officials to take stock of the situation.
Director General of Police M. Mahender Reddy has urged people to stay indoors. He tweeted, “It’s time to stop coming out again. People are requested to reach out to the DRF teams at 040-29555500 for their police & assistance on #Dial100.”
Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar said people are advised to stay indoors unless there is an emergency.
“Traffic advisories are for your safety and security. Please follow them. Our officers have been working since last night to see that you cause the least amount of inconvenience. I just saw a lot of onlookers on the streets near Jahanuma Have seen it coming. Please refrain from coming on roads till water. Holds back,” he tweeted.
Meanwhile, Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan tweeted that incessant heavy rains and its aftermath are all worrying for us. He wrote, “Apart from the government each one of us must participate to help and share the suffering in every possible way. Interaction with Telangana Red Cross volunteers today 2 Appreciate their work and inspire them further ,” She wrote.
