Telangana tourist, guide killed in paragliding accident in North Sikkim

new Delhi: A 23-year-old tourist from Telangana and his guide died on Friday after losing balance and falling into a river while paragliding in North Sikkim.

Police said that according to the report of news agency PTI, Isha Reddy, a resident of Khammam, Telangana, had gone to visit Lachung.

According to the police, Reddy along with his guide left Lachung View Point at around 9.30 am on Friday morning along with Sandeep Gurung, a resident of Thami Dara in Gangtok.

However, both lost their balance due to strong winds and fell into the Lachung River, after which they were swept away by its strong currents.

Later, after a search operation, which involved police personnel, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and the Army, their bodies were found in the evening, officials said.

Police had initially said that the personnel were facing difficulties in extricating the bodies due to the strong current of the river, however, later in the evening, the ITBP recovered both the bodies from the Lachung river in North Sikkim.

This is not the first paragliding accident in recent times. Earlier, in November last year, a Gujarat couple had a narrow escape on the Nagao beach in Diu after their parachute rope broke during a parasailing trip. Both had life jackets and lifeguards rescued them almost immediately.

A video of the incident went viral on social media.
