Telangana student Praneeth, celebrating his birthday in Toronto, drowned while swimming in a lake. Family requests urgent repatriation of his body to India

A 24-year-old Indian student from Telangana drowned while swimming with friends in a Toronto lake on his birthday. A Praneeth, who hails from Meerpet, had travelled to Canada to pursue his Master’s degree and was celebrating his special day when the incident occurred.

On Sunday morning, Praneeth went swimming but failed to return. His father, A. Ravi, reported that local authorities were notified and rescue teams took over 10 hours to reach the lake. Praneeth’s body was recovered later that evening.

The news reached the family on Monday through a friend of Praneeth’s brother. They are currently coordinating with local authorities and friends in Canada to facilitate the repatriation of his body.

Praneeth’s father expressed profound grief over the death of his son. He had moved to Canada in 2019 for his studies, followed by his elder brother in 2022. The family is appealing to the government for assistance in expediting the process of bringing their beloved son back to Hyderabad.
