Hyderabad: Three people lost their lives in incidents related to Cyclone Rose-triggered rain in Telangana in the last 24 hours, while hundreds of people living in low-lying areas of Hyderabad were shifted to safer places as a precautionary measure.
Police said that a dead body was seen floating at a high speed on Tuesday in Musi under Amberpet police station area. The locals shot a video and informed the police and by the time the police could respond, the body had been washed away.
“Since the water flow was heavy, the body was swept away at a high speed,” said assistant commissioner of police (Malakpet division). N Venkata Raman said.
Police said that they have started a search operation and missing diaries in police stations are also being checked.
In another incident, a 27-year-old man was swept away while crossing an overflowing stream on his motorcycle at Pulusumadi in Vikarabad district on Monday night and his body was recovered on Tuesday, a police officer said. Based on the registration number of his two-wheeler, the person was identified as Ishaq Pasha, a resident of Pulusumamidi village.
His body was found in a drain about five km away. There is an under-construction bridge over the river which Pasha tried to cross on his bike, but got washed away.
In the third incident reported from Kamareddy district, a 55-year-old man’s vehicle was swept away after he slipped and fell into a lake while crossing it and his body was later traced. The driver has been identified as P Bhagwan Reddy.
In Hyderabad, police evacuated hundreds of people from Shankar Nagar under Chadarghat police station area. “The Chadarghat flyover was closed for some time, fearing that Musi water might flow over the bridge. But we opened the bridge for motorists after heavy traffic jams in the area,” said a police officer from the East Zone.
