Telangana on high alert, Hyderabad airport monitored with emergence of Omicron

Hyderabad: While people were returning to normalcy, another variant of COVID-19 has been detected in South Africa earlier this week. The state governments are taking extreme precautions and as per reports, till Friday (November 26) no case of the Omicron variant was reported in India. The Center has directed all the states to take strict steps to keep the new version away.

Following this, the Telangana State Health Department has issued a high alert and directed the airport authorities to tighten surveillance at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad. Teams to closely monitor and thoroughly screen international travelers from countries where the variant has already been detected – Botswana, South Africa, Belgium Israel and Hong Kong.

Passengers from these countries will be rigorously tested by the health teams at the airport. According to the guidelines issued by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the contacts of the influx of international travelers from these countries will be closely tracked and tested.

Screening measures intensified at Chennai airport

Even at the Kamarajar International Airport in Chennai, screening and testing measures are to be intensified as per the directions of the state health ministry.

Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramaniam along with State Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan reviewed the arrangements at the Chennai airport on Saturday.
