Telangana government says Center will have to take a call on Krishna river water sharing

After the Andhra Pradesh government moved the Supreme Court and the Center against Telangana power generation and irrigation projects, Telangana special chief secretary Rajat Kumar on Monday said the central government has to decide on the state’s share of water in the Krishna river. .

Rajat Kumar held a meeting with the officials concerned and discussed the gazette notification issued by the Centre.

He said that till the Center gives clarity on Telangana’s share in the Krishna river, it will have to offer 405.5 TMC which is half of the 811 TMC water given to Telangana.

The notification brought under the purview of the board to take a final decision with the central security forces for watering rivers and projects. This was being opposed by both the states.

Rajat Kumar said that an action plan would be prepared on the state’s share of water.

Engineers, legal experts and officials of irrigation projects attended the meeting.

Rajat Kumar said that the state government is ready to submit the detailed project report on new projects in the state to the Union Jal Shakti Minister.

He claimed that the Palamoor-Ranga Reddy, Dindi, Devadula and other projects are out of date as the state is following the relevant norms.

Telangana is not violating any irrigation project norms and will give DPRs of old ones, he clarified.

He directed to fight legally if necessary to get water as per the instructions of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.

“I am looking at the gazette notification on the two boards issued by the Centre,” he said.

The Center has brought rivers and projects under the purview of two river boards through a new notification.

The government is looking into related issues such as administrative, technical and legal issues. The government for its part is getting ready to fight at any level and legal issues are being looked into.

Rajat Kumar directed the officials to prepare reports and guidelines and make efforts to get the water despite creating problems in Andhra Pradesh.

Both the states are opposing the Centre’s partisan approach on water, board and distribution.

As soon as the Andhra Pradesh government went to the Supreme Court on the dispute, the Telangana government is also ready to fight for water at any level.
