The Telangana state government has decided to hike the prices of cinema tickets. While the hike in ticket prices will bring relief to filmmakers and the cinema industry, it will be an additional burden for people to come to theaters to watch films post the pandemic.

The government decided to increase the ticket prices to a minimum of Rs 50 and a maximum of Rs 300, apart from allowing theater managements to levy GST and maintenance charges.

This decision of the government came after the filmmakers appealed for a hike in fares. While AC theaters will collect a minimum of Rs 50 and a maximum of Rs 150 plus GST, multiplex theaters will collect a minimum of Rs 100 and a maximum of Rs 250 plus GST. Single theaters with special recliner seats can charge Rs 200 plus GST and multiplexes can charge Rs 300 plus GST.

The government also issued orders allowing AC theaters to charge Rs 5 and non-AC theaters Rs 3 as maintenance fee.
