Tekchand, a resident of Bawal, Rewari, became the flag bearer of the Indian contingent in the Tokyo Paralympics.

Paralympic player Tekchand, a resident of Bawal in Rewari district, led the Indian contingent as a flag bearer at the opening ceremony of Paralympics-2020, which began in Tokyo, Japan on Tuesday. For this achievement of Paralympic player Tekchand, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal congratulated him and wished him good performance in the competition.

54 players from India are representing the country in Tokyo Paralympics, out of which 19 players are from Haryana state. One of these para players Tekchand will also bet for a gold medal in the javelin throw of the F-54 category. It was Tekchand’s dream to participate in Paralympics which has now been fulfilled. Tekchand had left here with the Indian team on 18 August. Tekchand will show his strength in the Paralympics on September 3.

This is Tekchand’s family
Tekchand’s father Rameshchand died in the year 1994. Born on 24 July 1984, Tekchand is survived by mother Vidya Devi, elder brother Dulichand, Bhali Sheela Devi, niece and nephew. Dulichand is working in Narnaul as a Chartered Accountant in Electricity Corporation.

Selected by throwing javelin 29.66 meters away
Tekchand was selected for the Paralympics by throwing a javelin 29.66 meters away in the trials held at the Nehru Stadium in Delhi on June 29 this year. Tekchand had earlier won the bronze medal at the Asian Games held in Jakarta, Indonesia in the year 2018.

The state government gave this honor
On this achievement, he has been appointed as a coach in the Sports and Youth Program Department by the Haryana Government. Currently working as a sports coach in Mahendragarh district, but in view of the preparations for the Tokyo Olympics, he was training at Rao Tularam Stadium in Rewari as well as training other differently abled players.

Many other big achievements of Tekchand
Earlier Tekchand is ranked sixth in the world in Javelin Throw in the World Championships held in Dubai in the year 2019. Tekchand, 36, remained in bed for nearly ten years after being seriously injured in a road accident in 2005. Participated in Javelin, Discus, Shotput sports since 2016 and made recognition at State, National and International level. In the 19th National Paraathletic Competition held in Bangalore on March 29 this year, he won gold medal in all three shots, javelin and discus throw.
