KV Shashi Kumar, a 56-year-old retired teacher has been arrested for sexual assault in Malappuram district of Kerala. The former girl students of the school have filed a sexual harassment case against the accused. Apart from being the accused teacher, he has also been a councilor of Malappuram district thrice from the CPM party. Kerala Education Minister V Shivankutty has ordered a probe into the entire matter.

The accused teacher suffered heavy posting on Facebook

Actually the accused teacher had retired in March. He wrote a Facebook post to announce his retirement. In the comment section of the post, a woman first wrote about her sexual abuse. Gradually many more women wrote about sexual abuse against the teacher. All these women had been students of the accused. On May 7, everyone filed a case against the accused.

Case registered under POCSO Act in one case

In one of the seven cases at Malappuram Mahila Police Station, a case has been registered under the POCSO Act. They say that the woman was a junior student when she was sexually assaulted. Due to this the case has been registered under POCSO. In the other 6 cases, the age of the victim was more. According to the complaint, the incident of sexual abuse took place in the year 2012 and the same year the POCSO Act came into force.

Sexual abuse of more than 60 girl students in 30 years

The accused teacher was teaching at St. Gemmas Girls’ Higher Secondary School in Malappuram for 30 years. Got retirement in March this year. According to the allegation, during his tenure, the accused sexually assaulted dozens of girls of class V-VI. Speaking to the media, a prominent advocate and social activist who represents the School Alumni Association, she said that during her career, the accused had taught in junior classes. I estimate he must have misbehaved with 400-500 students during his career.

There will also be an investigation against the school management

Kerala Education Minister V Shivankutty said his department would investigate whether there was any lapse on the part of the school management in reporting the alleged misbehavior. According to media reports, more than 60 girl students had complained to the school management against the teacher. In the year 2019, the girl students had raised this issue but no action was taken by the school management.

After the controversy, the party also dismissed

The accused teacher has been a councilor from Malappuram district thrice. Even at this time, this post was with him, but after the controversy, he had to resign from the post on the instructions of the party. The party has dismissed the accused teacher. When the matter came to light, there was a lot of protest by groups of women and youth. She accused the police of avoiding arresting the CPM leader.
