TCS, Infosys, Wipro to recruit over 1 lakh freshers in this financial year

After the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, top Information Technology (IT) companies in India are aiming to bring in new talent. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Infosys and Wipro In this financial year more than 1 lakh colleges are looking to hire freshers for their purpose. These claims were made by the firms after their respective quarterly updates. These companies have gone from a net drop of 9,000 in hiring at the beginning of FY21 to a massive 40,000 employees in the first quarter. Wipro had brought in around 12,000 employees in the June quarter alone. Infosys added about 8,300 employees and TCS added about 20,000 employees to its ranks, taking the total number to 5 lakh.

TCS is looking to make waves and lead the pack

Tata Consultancy Services is eyeing to recruit 40,000 freshers through campus placements in India within the financial year 2021-2022. A firm’s titan has remained consistent with its hiring rates over the past two years. In 2020 TCS hired 40,000 employees adding to its base of 5 lakh employees already. “From campuses in India, we hired 40,000 people last year. We will continue to hire and hire 40,000 or more people in India this year,” said TCS’ Chief of Global Human Resources. He also indicated that lateral hiring is another target of the company this hiring season.

Lakkar pointed out that neither the pandemic nor the lockdown restrictions posed any threat to the recruitment process, adding that around 3.60 lakh freshers appeared for the virtual entrance exam last year.

Infosys is hiring in the next phase

According to a statement by Chief Operating Officer, Praveen Rao, Infosys is planning to hire around 35,000 college pass-outs globally for FY12. The company’s workforce stood at 2.59 lakh in the March quarter, but increased to 2.67 lakh by the end of the June quarter.

“As the demand for digital talent accelerates, job creation in the industry has become a near-term challenge. We plan to meet this demand by expanding our hiring program of college graduates to 35,000 globally for FY22. The well being of the employees is of paramount importance to us and in this regard we have taken several interventions including facilitating immunization for them and their dependents,” Rao said.

He then added, “We launched a number of intensive employee engagement initiatives, including career acceleration opportunities, compensation reviews and learning and development interventions. Our clients support many of the initiatives we have undertaken; they support this extraordinary We value the delivery commitments fulfilled by us even on time.”

Wipro is planning for attrition boom

Wipro added over 12,000 employees in the April-June quarter as it expected an increase in the workforce in view of the prevailing situation. With the attrition rates expected by the company, the IT giant is planning to expedite its recruitment process by domaining 30,000 job offers to join freshers in FY12.

India’s top IT firms are clearly anticipating a large number of layoffs depending on the current scenario of the market and the economy. Wipro Chairman Rishad Premji said in a letter to shareholders that technology is at the forefront of economic recovery. He further added that given the shift in the digital space, the demand will far exceed the job supply.
