Work from home (WFH) culture has gained more acceptance in the IT sector. While the industry is making a comeback and employees are gradually returning to their offices after spending more than 18 months on a work from home model, this trend is expected to continue.

According to John M Thomas, CEO of IT Parks in Kerala, the new work culture has made a positive impact on the society by including more new mothers and the disabled in the workforce. Thomas said companies will continue to operate in a hybrid manner and will not reduce the workforce.

“This trend has a net positive impact on the IT industry and society, including workforce expansion to include sectors such as new mothers, differently-abled, etc., easing traffic congestion in cities, and a decentralized IT workforce. Which is not only clustered around major cities,” Thomas said.

Notably, with the easing of Covid-19 rules, relaxation of restrictions and full immunization of employees, companies across the country are planning to resume work from office. Most of the IT companies are opting for a hybrid working model with a mix of employees working together from home and office.

Major IT companies like TCS, Infosys, Wipro and HCL Technologies are planning to call back their employees.

The country’s largest IT company TCS has said that it will soon call its employees back to their offices as 70 per cent of them have been fully vaccinated and around 95 per cent have received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. dose received.

Milind Lakkar, Chief Human Resource Officer of the company said, “With 70 per cent of the employees fully vaccinated, and over 95 per cent having received at least one dose, we are looking forward to gradually introduce our employees by the end of this year. Planning to slowly bring it back to the office.” .

The company plans to encourage its associates to return to offices by the end of CY’21. The company will move towards adopting a ’25/25′ model, in which only 25 percent of its nearly half-million global workforce will be in office locations at any given time, with associates spending only 25 percent of their time in the office. . And within project teams, only 25 percent of employees can be co-located.

“We remain committed to the 25/25 model but before the model changes, we need to bring people back into the office and gradually evolve to 25/25,” TCS said in a statement.

Infosys, the second largest Indian IT company, is also planning a hybrid work model. Its COO Praveen Rao said that 86 percent of InfoScience in India has received at least one dose of vaccination and the company is now preparing to adopt a hybrid work model.

Rao said, “We have equipped employees with the resources they need to stay productive, cyber-secure, connected and maintain work-life balance. Our talent strategy also factors into the expanding recruitment pool that includes new communities and functions. Locations included.”

Notably, Wipro’s fully vaccinated employees have already started going back to the offices. The country’s third largest IT company is also following a hybrid work model, in which fully vaccinated employees come to the office twice a week. Wipro Chairman Rishad Premji had earlier shared a video in which Covid-19 safety protocols such as temperature checks and QR code scans were being seen as employees return to the office.

HCL Technologies has also asked its senior employees to come to the office at least twice a week, while others will have to attend the office once a week as per the requirement.

“We expect the momentum to pick up by the end of this calendar year. This is the policy we have at the moment,” said Apparao VV, chief human resource officer.

A hybrid approach is basically when employees can work from home as well as in the office in a few days. Till now work from anywhere will not be possible and the employees will have to return to the place for which they were hired.
