New Delhi: Glendale, Arizona officials have confirmed they will rename the city in honor of singer Taylor Swift in time for the singer to kick off her US tour later this month.
To celebrate the start of Taylor Swift’s US tour, the town of Glendale, Arizona, will be renamed in her honour, reports femalefirst.co.uk.
The singer is kicking off ‘The Eras’ tour at State Farm Stadium in Glendale on March 17 and 18 before heading to Las Vegas on March 24, and officials have decided to temporarily rename the city to celebrate Taylor.
Several of the pop star’s songs have been named under scrutiny, a statement from city officials read: “There’s no need to be complacent, we’re fearless and doing something very unusual to celebrate the fact that Taylor’s concerts start right here!
“We are all too well aware that she is one of the most influential artists of her generation and we are writing our love story for her and wishing every Swiftie out there in style!”
Glendale Mayor Jerry Weathers is expected to announce the city’s new name on March 13 and it will be in effect March 17 and 18 — the days Taylor is demonstrating in Glendale.
Reports suggest that the city’s Westgate Entertainment District shopping center will also display welcome messages for the singer and restaurants around the city will change their menus to offer Taylor-inspired food.
The ‘Shake It Off’ star previously announced Glendale as the first stop on her tour when she confirmed the dates last year. In a tweet introducing the tour, she wrote: “I’m thrilled to announce my next tour: ‘Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour’, the first leg of a musical journey through the ages of my career (past present!) across the US.” will be in stadiums in the U.S., with international dates to be announced as soon as possible!”
She later added eight more shows to the US tour, bringing the total number of stops to 35.
