Coimbatore: Forest department officials of the Tiruppur Forest Department on Saturday evening arrested three persons for trying to sell four pieces of an ivory tusk for Rs 80 lakh in Tiruppur city.
The arrested persons were sent to judicial custody and lodged in Tiruppur sub-jail on Sunday. The officers recovered four pieces from the possession of the trio.
Those arrested have been identified as V Veerappan63, p muruganaThe 45-year-olds were both residents of Velliankadu in Tiruppur and M Avinashiyappan, 37, of Avinashi in Tiruppur district.

He went to some people for ivory and told them that he would sell them. But the owner of the ivory should pay a commission of ten percent for it. A man from Theni visited Tiruppur town and brought four pieces of an ivory tusk in two travel bags and handed them over to Veerappan.
“Veerappan approached his friends Murugan and Avinashiyappan to find a receiver. All three were trying to sell the teeth for Rs 80 lakh.
