Chennai: Southern Railway‘s Chennai Division A tower car was launched on Wednesday to inspect, maintain and repair overhead power cables and equipment that can be operated on battery and overhead power.

EMU Car Shed, Avadi has converted an old EMU Motor Coach into OHE cum Battery Operated Tower Car for OHE Inspection, Maintenance and Hotline Monitoring. It is equipped with two sets of batteries like AC III Tier Coach, Tool Cabinet, Crew Rest Area, Inspection Boom, Safety Equipment and others.
The tower car will be able to run for 11 hours in half power and three and a half hours in full power.
John Thomas, General Manager, Southern Railway, inaugurated the Tower Car at Platform VI of MGR Chennai Central Railway Station.
