Tamil Nadu: Seven killed, 14 injured in road accident in Tirupathur district

new Delhi: At least seven people were killed and 14 others injured in a road accident in Tamil Nadu on Saturday.

According to a report in news agency PTI, the accident took place in Tirupathur district of Tamil Nadu when the pickup truck they were traveling in fell into the valley after the driver lost control of the vehicle.

It is being told that the driver of the truck had a nap and lost control of the vehicle and hit an electric pole. According to the information, the truck overturned after hitting the pole and fell into the valley.

26 passengers were involved in the accident and the injured are currently undergoing treatment at Tirupattur Government Hospital.

Meanwhile, emergency teams have been dispatched to the spot to help with the rescue operations.

Taking cognizance of the incident, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has directed that a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each be given to the families of each of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to those injured in the accident.

Notably, earlier on March 28, an eight-year-old boy was killed after he was crushed by a school van inside his school premises in Tamil Nadu.

The accident happened when the driver was reversing the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was later arrested.
