Tamil Nadu revokes ban on age-old Hindu ritual ‘Pattina Pravesam’

The MK Stalin-led Tamil Nadu government revoked the ban on an age-old Hindu ritual called the ‘Pattina Pravesam’ on Sunday. This comes after tension rose in the state over the decision of a revenue divisional officer to ban a centuries-old practice of carrying a mutt head in a palanquin in a ritualist procession.

The Mayiladuthurai Collectorate had denied permission for the tradition of devotees carrying the seer of the Dharmapuram Adheenam in a palanquin called the ‘Pattina Pravesam’. The Dharmapuram Adheenam is a saivite monastic institution based in the town of Mayiladuthurai, Tamil Nadu.
