The truck was on its way from Chennai port towards Thoothukudi district when surprised by a snake crossing the road at Perangiyur near Villupuram, the truck driver immediately applied the brakes and stopped the truck.

During this, one ton of iron rollers loaded on the truck started rolling on the road. Meanwhile, the driver of a government express bus going from Chennai to Madurai district took an immediate left turn on the side of the road to avoid colliding with the truck. Losing control, the bus broke the barricades and passed on the opposite side of the road.

At the same time, an auto going from Arasur towards Pidagam collided with a government bus, causing its chain accident. Eventually the auto got crushed and the auto driver suffered a major fracture in his leg, injuring him seriously.

More than 10 people including the driver and the operator of the bus were injured. Thereafter, the injured were taken by the public to the Mundiyambakkam Government Medical College Hospital for treatment.

In addition, the accident affected traffic on two national highways for several hours – Chennai-Trichy and Salem-Chennai. Tirunavalur Police has registered a case and is probing the incident while the truck driver has been brought in for questioning.
