Tamil Nadu: NEET aspirant dies by suicide hours before appearing for exam

Hours before appearing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for the third time, a 19-year-old youth from a village near Salem committed suicide on Sunday.

“The boy was found hanging by his mother in their house around 3.45 am and the family informed us,” a Mettur range police officer told PTI.

Asked if any suicide note was found, he refused to divulge, but said he had to appear for the national exam for the third time after failing to clear the test in the last two attempts.

The body of the boy Dhanush, a resident of Kuzhaiyur village near Mettur, was handed over to the family after post-mortem at the hospital.

Police said a large number of people gathered near his house and his death by suicide created a tense situation in the village.
