Tamil Nadu CM Stalin says Karunanidhi’s statue will be re-installed

Chief Minister MK Stalin announced in the Assembly on Wednesday that a statue of late leader M Karunanidhi would be installed at the main gate of Anna Salai here. Responding to DMK MLA Nilamgam’s request to install a statue of former Chief Minister Karunanidhi at Anna Salai, Stalin said Dravida Kazhagam chief K Veeramani had also made the same request to him.

The Chief Minister said that Karunanidhi’s statue would definitely be installed at Anna Salai after consultation with legal experts in view of the court’s decision regarding the installation of idols.

Following the death of AIADMK founder MG Ramachandran (MGR was the chief minister at the time of his death) on 24 December 1987, a statue of Karunanidhi installed by DK at Anna Salai was damaged and was eventually removed from the site.
