Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has done in these films

It may come as a surprise to many to learn that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin also once tried his luck in acting before becoming a prominent political leader. He was seen in the movies Makkal Anai Ital and Or Ratham. Makkal Anaai Ittal was directed by Ramanarayanan while Ore Ratham was directed by filmmaker K Swarnam.

Both the films were based on stories written by his late father and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.

Makkal Aanai Ittal starred Vijayakanth, Radha Ravi and others in pivotal roles. Vijayakanth played the role of a police officer in this film. MK Stalin appeared in a song named Aara Amara in this film. In this song, Stalin was seen holding the flag of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. This sequence became very popular.

Director Ramanarayanan was a staunch supporter of M Karunanidhi. He was made the President of Tamil Nadu Filmmakers Association under the rule of DMK. Apart from Makkal Anaai Ittal, Ramanarayanan directed a total of three films which were based on stories written by Karunanidhi.

Stalin was seen with Radha Ravi and Karthik in the film Ore Ratham. Stalin played the role of Nandakumar in the film. Ore Ratham was based on a novel of the same title by Karunanidhi. The film tells the story of Mahesh who is an educated young man. Ore Ratham described how his father was an extremely conservative man who believed in the caste system.

Apart from these films, Stalin was also seen in a television serial named Kurinji Malar. The serial was a success and became popular among DMK workers in the 1980s. Stalin played the character of Aravindan, a young poet with Dravidian ideals.

Despite the success of this serial, Stalin’s focus remained on politics. He won the 1989 assembly election from the Thousand Lights constituency. In 1996, Stalin was the first directly elected mayor of Chennai.
