Tamil Nadu: BJP suspends Gayathri Raguramm; inquiry ordered against Surya Siva | Chennai News – Times of India

CHENNAI : BJP Tamil Nadu unit is in the midst of a controversy over top functionaries issuing death threats and using abusive language against each other, besides lashing out on social media. Party state president K Annamalai on Tuesday suspended actor and state president of other state and overseas Tamil development wing, Gayathri Raguramm on the charges of bringing disrepute to the party.
Annamalai has also asked Surya Siva, another functionary, not to participate in any party events pending inquiry into his using abusive language and issuing death threats against another functionary. Surya is the son of DMK senior leader and Rajya Sabha MP Tiruchi NSiva.
The action followed after a leaked audio of the exchanges between party’s OBC president Surya Siva and minority president Daisy Saran went viral. Annamalai said the party disciplinary committee led by Kanaka Sabapathi had been entrusted with the task of conducting an inquiry and submitting a report within seven days.
“OBC president Surya Siva is instructed not to participate in party events until the committee submits its report,” Annamalai said. Gayathri has been suspended for six months and cadres and functionaries have been told not to have any truck with her.
Gayathri trained guns on the state leadership for acting against her without holding an inquiry and issuing show cause notice. The actor had recently lashed out at a party functionary of the industrial wing on Twitter for trolling senior leaders of the state BJP. “I only spoke the truth.
If there are any personal attacks against me on social media, I cannot remain quiet. I’ll hit back,” Gayathri said, adding that she was drafting the complaint to be presented to the leadership.
In a series of tweets recently, Gayathri alleged that trolls had been employed by a senior functionary to set different narratives against senior leaders. In a separate statement, BJP Tamil Nadu in-charge P Sudhakar Reddy asked the office-bearers to toe the party line while making speeches in public.
