Tamil film ‘Kozhangal’ is India’s official entry at Oscars 2022 – all you need to know

New Delhi: The 2021 Tamil drama film ‘Kozhangal’ has been selected as India’s official entry at the Oscars 2022. Helmed by debutant PS Vinothraj, the film has been selected as India’s official entry for Best International Feature Film at number 94.th Academic Award.

‘Kozhangal’ is produced by Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan under the banner of Rowdy Pictures. Sharing the news of the film’s official entry at the Oscars, excited producer Vignesh Shivan wrote on Twitter, “This is your chance to hear! “And Oscar goes…” Two steps away from a dream come true moment in our lives…. #Pebble #Nayanthara @PsVinothraj @thisissysr @AmudhavanKar @Rowdy_Pictures Couldn’t be prouder, happier & satisfied.

Featuring Chellapandi and Karutthadaiyaan in the lead roles, ‘Koojhangal’ is a story based on the family of director PS Vinothraj. The story inspired him to direct the film and the entire film was shot within 30 days at Aritapatiu.

The film was also screened at the 50th International Film Festival of Rotterdam held in the Netherlands on 4 February 2021. ‘Kozhangal’ was also officially selected at the North American premiere of the New Directors New Films Festival. It was selected at the Jeonju International Film Festival held in South Korea and screened at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles.

‘Koojhangal’ was selected among 14 films shortlisted for India’s official entry at Oscars 2022. ‘Sardar Udham’, Tamil film ‘Mandela’, Malayalam film ‘Nayattu’ were among the films that were shortlisted for India’s entry at the Oscars. .

‘Koojhangal’ is the story of a child who, along with his violent and alcoholic father, sets out in search of a mother who has run away from abuse.
