Vijay shared his thoughts on NEET exams abolishment.

Tamil actor-turned-political leader Vijay opened up about the ongoing debate over abolishment of NEET exams in Tamil Nadu.

Tamil actor-turned-politician Vijay weighed in on the debate over abolishing the medical entrance exam, NEET, at a recent political event. The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) head said that abolishing the NEET examination is the only ‘solution’. The political leader extended his support to TN State Assembly’s resolution of abolishing the medical examination and added that people have ‘lost their faith’ in NEET.

“People have lost faith in NEET examination. The nation doesn’t need NEET. Exemption from NEET is the only solution. I wholeheartedly welcome resolution against NEET which was passed in the State Assembly. I request the Union Government to respect the emotions of the people of Tamil Nadu people. Education should be brought under the State List from Concurrent list,” Vijay said, as reported by ANI.

“As an interim solution, the Indian Constitution should be amended to create a ‘Special Concurrent List’ and Education and Health should be added under it,” Vijay added, as reported by Mathrubhumi.

For the unversed, PTI reported last month that DMK Rajya Sabha member P Wilson urged the central government to either abolish medical entrance exam NEET or approve Tamil Nadu’s NEET exemption Bill to exclude the state from the competitive exam. His appeal came amid allegations of irregularities in the conduct of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) for admissions to medical courses. The allegations came after it was reported that the NEET papers were leaked this year.

PTI reported NEET-UG 2024 exam was taken by around 23.33 lakh students and the alleged irregularities in its conduct, including question paper leak, has led to filing of cases in courts, including the Supreme Court, and an inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The probe agency on June 23 filed an FIR in connection with the alleged irregularities in the exam held on May 5 on a reference from the Union education ministry.
