Taliban will not be judged by its words, but by its actions: US after Doha talks

State Department spokesman Ned Price said on Sunday (local time) that a US inter-agency delegation traveled to Qatar to meet senior Taliban representatives in Kabul and discuss issues of important national interest. According to Ned Price, the US delegation reiterated that the Taliban will be judged by its actions, not just its words.

“On October 9 and 10, an inter-agency delegation traveled to Doha, Qatar to meet senior representatives of the Taliban. The US delegation addressed security and terrorism concerns and the safety of US citizens, other foreign nationals and our Afghan partners. The path focused on human rights, which includes the meaningful participation of women and girls in all aspects of Afghan society,” the statement said.

“The two sides also discussed the United States’ provision of stronger humanitarian assistance directly to the Afghan people. The discussion was frank and professional, with the US delegation reiterating that the Taliban will be judged not only by its actions, but also by its words.” added.

Taliban and US delegations have held their first meeting in Qatar’s capital, Doha, to start a “new page on their relationship”. This is the first in-person meeting between the two sides since the US withdrawal from Afghanistan in mid-August.

“The Afghan government and the United States delegation discussed their relationship in Qatar, as well as humanitarian aid to Afghanistan and the implementation of the Doha peace agreement,” Sputnik quoted Afghanistan’s acting foreign minister, Amir Khan Muttaki, as saying.

Since the Taliban’s capture of Afghanistan, there have been a handful of nations such as China and Pakistan that have shown interest in establishing ties with the organization. Other members of the international community are adopting a wait-and-see policy.
